Western Association of Food & Drug Officials
Seafood HACCP Training Scholarship
Dear WAFDO Members,
Hopefully you are aware that with the release of the new 4th Edition of the FDA Seafood Hazards Guide there is a requirement for trainers and inspectors to participate in update training. The following message has been provided by AFDO with regard to these classes:
A series of special Seafood HACCP Update Sessions have been scheduled to introduce and discuss the new 4th Edition of the FDA Seafood HACCP Guide. The half-day sessions are open to any person, firm or authorities with pertinent interest in implementation of HACCP programs for seafood safety. Attendance is recommended for both new and experienced personnel from commercial operations and regulatory programs, and the existing Seafood HACCP Alliance (SHA) approved HACCP trainers.
Each half-day Update Session is scheduled to coincide with special Re-Qualification training for the existing SHA-approved trainers. Attendance for these Re-Qualification sessions is optional, but expected for the existing trainers who want to maintain their “approved” or “qualified” SHA training status.
These Update and Trainer Re-Qualification sessions are provided by the Seafood HACCP Alliance (SHA) for training and education, in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO), and International Food Protection Training Institute (IFPTI). There is no registration fee, but pre-registration is necessary to assure available space for this very important program.
AFDO is working with each of the regional affiliates to provide $2,000.00 in funding to assist with travel expenses associated with attendance. The regional affiliate will be responsible for determining how these travel dollars are allocated. Please see the attached announcement of a scholarship opportunity to apply for travel monies to attend this training. Although interested parties are encouraged to attend the course offered in the WAFDO Region, due to the timing of the training we will also consider attendance for the Plano, TX dates if applicants are also attending the AFDO Conference. Please review the announcement and application and submit by the May 16th deadline. We realize this is a very short turnaround, but the offerings in the WAFDO Region are the first so we don’t have much time.
If you have question please feel free to contact Benson Yee or give me a call.
Regards,
Susan Parachini
